ButohOUT! 2022 KaBuKu-Off! celebrates the extraordinary beauty in distortion through Butoh, Dance of Darkness. It focuses on our fundamental nature of being slightly off centre, weird, twisted and even drowning in a sea of chaos in a post pandemic contemporary way of living life.

ButohOUT! 2022 Spring Season (Thu 24 - Sun 27 Nov 2022) brings the energy of the Japanese MATSURI 祭 to the Abbotsford Convent.  MATSURI 祭 loosely translates as ‘festival’ and describes a community gathering space where rituals are shared with a spirit of celebration.

ButohOUT! 2022 held three events in this season; 

• the Convent Kids program presented by Abbotsford Convent, Peek-A-Butoh, a 50 min fun and family-friendly Butoh workshop for kids, 

• the site-specific performance work titled Blessed Chaos 祝福のカオス, and 

• the contemporary Butoh themed DJ & performance night, ButohOUT! NightOUT!

With food, drink, music and dance, we foster our connection withinin the community through the unique fluidity of Butoh!
